On November 11, 1918, the armistice was signed. Soldiers left the front and occupied zones, gradually returning to their homes. In Tarnos, families and demobilized soldiers had to get to know each other again, in households often affected by grief. The end of the fighting forces veterans to try and reintegrate professionally, socially and personally. Some of the Poilus also sought political, trade union or civic commitment in the name of ideals developed in the trenches. Drawing on written and visual testimonies, we propose to rediscover various portraits of local poilus representative of the fighting movement in Tarnos during the immediate post-war years.
