The Seignanx is a Landes territory on the outskirts of the Basque Country: ocean beaches and pine forests, estuary and Barthes de l’Adour, connected cities and more discreet villages, industrial port and aeronautical pole… An alternative and innovative territory, strongly committed to Sustainable Development and the Social and Solidarity Economy.
OCEAN AND BEACH…
This is where the largest dune cordon in Europe starts. Between Ondres and Tarnos, 8 kilometers of beach allow both peaceful sunny naps and invigorating family swimming (monitoring is provided from mid-June to mid-September).
Those who know how to swim can enroll in certified surf schools to learn how to glide on waves necessarily ideal: We are just between Hossegor and Biarritz, the 2 «capitals» of surfing in Europe. Between 2 sand castles, the youngest can take swimming lessons at the beach club. Whether for sleeping, eating, playing, reading, sunbathing, diving, surfing, walking, running, fishing (surf casting).
…VAMOS A LA PLAYA !
THE LANDES FOREST
The Landes forest is the largest cultivated forest in Europe. First planted to fix the marsh, the man then devoted himself to maintaining it, exploiting it, cutting it, replanting it… Furniture, paper or products made from pine resin are all possible uses.
This incomparable natural area offers you a variety of activities such as hiking: Alone or with the family; on foot, on horseback or on wheels… You run through pine trees on a asphalt bike path that can be used for cycling, skating or rollerblading. It is part of the largest European cycling route: the Vélodyssée. Walkers and joggers prefer the marked trails under the pines of Ondres or Tarnos.

COUNTRYSIDE ALSO
The Seignanx countryside is an alternation of hillsides and valleys punctuated with authentic small villages. Pine forests, deciduous forests, corn fields, orchards, streams, parks… are as many landscapes accessible thanks to the many marked trails that allow the discovery of a respected and maintained nature. We are talking here about rurality, authenticity and «tradition of good living» where gastronomy is queen…
À TABLE !
In the barthes de l’Adour or the Orx marsh reserve, wild fauna and flora are more discreet: the site of Arremont (CPIE) or the house of the marsh will allow you to better know these wetlands and to observe its inhabitants, whether permanent or seasonal (herons, storks, cranes, etc.).
LANDES AND BASK HERITAGE
From castles to bourgeois houses, from fortified churches to typical farms, it is an original architecture that tells how men and women lived here. The “Cité des Forges” testifies to the industrial development known in Tarnos in the 19th century, the workers’ past and its struggles… Finally, how can we speak of architecture without evoking the pediments against which we throw the ball and which enthrone in all the villages of Seignanx. They are also part of the local culture. It is a meeting place and meeting place that invites you to discover this typical sport that we share with the Basque Country.
FESTIVALS AND TRADITIONS
The Seignanx is already summer events such as the traditional festivals of towns and villages, the Landes cow races, the Basque pelota games, the markets, the discovery of heritage, shows and concerts… During the off-season, Festi’Mai has been touring the Seignanx for more than 20 years to introduce independent artists to the four corners of the territory (circus, concerts, theatre, humour, etc.), while Tarnos hosts the Jazz in March, Saint-Martin the Catach Festival…
For the patronal festivities, trust the volunteers of the villages who will serve you the traditional dishes of the South West while enjoying the warm atmosphere that regularly gathers Gascons and Basques around a table, a square or a pediment. Finally, the ideal location of the Seignanx allows you to attend major events in nearby cities such as the Férias de Bayonne (bus service, night and day), the international competitions of Surf d’Hossegor and Biarritz, not to mention the many festivals surrounding.
