SWEET PEPPERS OF SWEET VILLAGE
Biarrotte is the smallest municipality in the canton of Seignanx (300 inhabitants). Its name comes most probably from the Latin «via rotarum» in reference to the wide road that crossed it once, the current RD 817 that connects Bayonne to Peyrehorade. On one side of the road, there is the fortified Romanesque church (a stop for pilgrims from Santiago de Compostela) and the Mayou, a mansion (very nice cottage for 14 people). On the other, the school, the town hall, not to mention the party hall, often occupied by the inhabitants… The RD 12 which runs south towards St Laurent de Gosse, meanders between hills and groves to offer beautiful views of Lake Bédorède and the Pyrenean chain…
If, as in most Landes communes, pine trees and corn are grown, there is also in Biarrotte an original product, well known to gourmets: the sweet pepper of the Basque country and the Seignanx.. Green pepper but Label Rouge, with which we make omelettes and without which we do not make piperidae (preparation composed of tomatoes, peppers, onions, garlic and olive oil). Sweet chilli finally enters the composition of many traditional recipes such as Basquaise chicken or axoa (minced veal).
